Gingivitis can also cause little or no pain.<\/li>\n    <li>The most important first step is <strong>regular and thorough removal of dental plaque<\/strong> by brushing and cleaning between the teeth.<\/li>\n    <li>If the gums bleed during cleaning, this is generally not a reason to stop. If dental\n    plaque is the cause, its regular removal is an essential part of improving\n    the condition. Cleaning should be gentle and thorough rather than aggressive.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>When does it not look like typical gingivitis?<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Marked swelling around a single tooth, pus, severe pain, fever or rapidly\n    developing facial swelling are not typical signs of simple gingivitis.\n    In such cases, dental assessment is needed.\n  <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"zakaj-nastane-vnetje-dlesni\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zakaj nastane vnetje dlesni?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"translation-block\">\n\n  <h3>Dental plaque is the main cause<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    The most common cause of gingivitis is <strong>dental plaque along the gumline<\/strong>.\n    Plaque is a sticky bacterial biofilm that begins to form again on the teeth\n    after cleaning. If it is not regularly removed, it irritates the gums and\n    triggers an inflammatory response.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Plaque that remains on the teeth can eventually mineralise into\n    <strong>tartar<\/strong>. Tartar cannot be removed by ordinary brushing,\n    and its rough surface makes it easier for more plaque to accumulate.\n    Professional cleaning is therefore needed to remove it.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>What increases the risk?<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Gingivitis is more likely to develop where plaque is difficult to remove\n    effectively or when the gums are more susceptible to inflammation.\n    Factors that may increase the risk include:\n  <\/p>\n\n  <ul>\n    <li>inadequate brushing and <strong>cleaning between the teeth<\/strong>,<\/li>\n    <li>smoking and other tobacco use,<\/li>\n    <li>dry mouth or reduced saliva production,<\/li>\n    <li>diabetes, particularly when poorly controlled,<\/li>\n    <li>hormonal changes, for example during pregnancy,<\/li>\n    <li>crowded teeth and some poorly fitting dental restorations or appliances that make cleaning more difficult,<\/li>\n    <li>certain medicines and medical conditions that affect the gums, saliva or immune response.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n\n  <p>\n    These factors do not mean that gingivitis will necessarily develop.\n    The central issue remains how much plaque is retained along the gumline\n    and how effectively it can be removed.\n  <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"kaj-pomaga-pri-vnetju-dlesni\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kaj pomaga pri vnetju dlesni?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"translation-block\">\n\n  <p>\n    With ordinary gingivitis, the most important step is to remove the cause:\n    <strong>dental plaque along the gumline and between the teeth<\/strong>.\n    Mouthwashes, gels and other products cannot replace this.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>1. Keep cleaning even if your gums bleed<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Bleeding during brushing is often a sign of inflammation, not a reason to\n    avoid the affected area. Clean carefully along the gumline, usually twice\n    daily with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Vigorous scrubbing is unnecessary and may further injure the gums.\n    Good technique and consistency are more important than force.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>2. Do not neglect the spaces between the teeth<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Brushing alone often fails to remove plaque between the teeth. Tartar cannot be removed at home<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Once soft plaque has mineralised into tartar, brushing and interdental\n    cleaning are no longer enough. Tartar must be removed professionally by a\n    dentist or dental hygienist. Good daily oral hygiene is then important to\n    reduce renewed plaque accumulation.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>What about mouthwash?<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    Mouthwash can be <strong>an addition to, not a replacement for mechanical\n    plaque removal<\/strong>. For some more pronounced cases of gum inflammation,\n    a dentist may recommend a short course of an antiseptic mouthwash such as\n    chlorhexidine. In practice, however,\n    it is important to distinguish between <strong>gingivitis<\/strong>, which\n    mainly affects the gums, and <strong>periodontitis<\/strong>, in which the\n    inflammation also affects the supporting tissues around the tooth.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    Gingivitis often improves once plaque is effectively removed and oral hygiene\n    is improved. If the jaw is\n    fully without teeth and covered by a full denture, the main issue is often\n    more <strong>mucosal irritation, pressure or poor denture fit<\/strong> rather\n    than classic gingivitis.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <h3>Why do problems under a denture develop?<\/h3>\n\n  <ul>\n    <li>plaque and food debris collect beneath the denture or along its edges,<\/li>\n    <li>cleaning is more difficult, especially with partial dentures and tight spaces,<\/li>\n    <li>the denture may mechanically rub or press on the gums,<\/li>\n    <li>a poorly cleaned denture can further irritate the oral tissues,<\/li>\n    <li>dry mouth and wearing the denture continuously for long periods may worsen the problem.<\/li>\n  <\/ul>\n\n  <h3>What helps with inflammation under a denture?<\/h3>\n\n  <p>\n    The first step is to <strong>clean both the denture and the mouth thoroughly<\/strong>.\n    With a partial denture, this means regular cleaning of the remaining teeth,\n    the spaces between them and the gumline. The denture itself should be\n    mechanically cleaned according to the advice of a dental professional or the manufacturer.\n  <\/p>\n\n  <p>\n    If the denture presses, rubs or the redness keeps returning beneath it,\n    cleaning alone is often not enough. Bleeding is generally not a\n        reason to stop cleaning; instead, clean gently and thoroughly.\n      <\/p>\n      <p>\n        A single episode of bleeding can also result from brushing too hard or\n        injuring the gum. Persistent or spontaneous bleeding should be assessed.\n      <\/p>\n    <\/details>\n\n    <details>\n      <summary>What helps with swollen gums?<\/summary>\n      <p>\n        The most important step is effective removal of dental plaque along the\n        gumline and between the teeth. If tartar is present, it must be removed\n        professionally by a dentist or dental hygienist.\n      <\/p>\n      <p>\n        Marked swelling around a single tooth, pus, severe pain or rapidly\n        increasing swelling requires dental assessment.\n      <\/p>\n    <\/details>\n\n    <details>\n      <summary>Is mouthwash enough for gum inflammation?<\/summary>\n      <p>\n        No. Mouthwash cannot replace brushing and interdental cleaning. It can\n        only be an addition to mechanical plaque removal. Antiseptic mouthwashes,\n        such as products containing chlorhexidine, are generally used for a\n        limited period and on professional advice.\n      <\/p>\n    <\/details>\n\n    <details>\n      <summary>What does severe gum inflammation mean?<\/summary>\n      <p>\n        The term is not a precise diagnosis. If marked bleeding or swelling is\n        accompanied by gum recession, pus, deeper periodontal pockets or loose\n        teeth, a more serious periodontal condition such as periodontitis may be\n        present.
